Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the choices are limited as you'll not have root access to the hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They are all actions that are carried out in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.
SSH Telnet in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting account with our company and you would like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't include this feature as standard, you can easily add it with several mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the CP, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would like to use, given that it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We've prepared numerous Help articles in which you can easily find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account using SSH no matter which plan you pick when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is included by default, and with others, it could be added as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You can find the necessary login info inside the Hepsia Control Panel, supplied with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You will be able to choose the password that you'll use and if you'd like, you may change it all the time with several clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands that you can use in advance, because we've listed all of them together with examples of how they are used so as to execute a particular task. The moment SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is activated, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server offers provide SSH access by default, so you will not need to add any upgrades or enable anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login info, you will be able to connect via its main IP address and the login credentials that you've chosen through the signup procedure. Due to the fact that the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands which you can run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage just about everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you can work with your files, databases and any applications that you install in a fast and safe way.
